Question ID: 414761
what archeological treasures rival those found in king tut's tomb? i
am looking for great, valuable, signficant finds, (some have suggested
elgin marbles, etc.) i am looking for either great pieces (like
agamemnon's mask) or treasure troves / caches with some kind of
approx. value, that could get in line after tut...can be anywhere.
need at least three or four. need to be true excavation / land archeological
finds, as opposed to shipwrecks, which keep coming up in my searches.
just need name / kind of find, place, year, and approx value; 3-4 of
these that could be said to
"rival" tut's treasure. greatest treasure finds of archeology, that
kind of thing.

In my humble opinion, the Terra Cotta Army and the tomb of Emperor
Q'in, near the city of Xian in China, actually outshines the rest for
it's "WOW!" factor. That is, however, simply my opinion. :) Hopefully
one of the true archeological experts among the Google Answers

thanks, i agree it's fantastic -- that whole tomb is i am already
covering elsewhere in the piece... i am kind of looking for more
traditional (gold, jewels, jade, ivory, etc) type of
"treasure"...thanks,
marcy

Here's the top ten from the British Museum which another researcher
may wish to consider and include in their list. My favourite is the
Lewis Chessmen.

The so-called Priamos Treasure, discovered by the German archaeologist
Heinrich Schliemann in Troy in 1873. It certainly qualifies for the
list.
