Hi Aaron -

I have located a book that lists a very large portion of all
independent record companies in the country. It has about 100 listed
for Chicago, with full contact information for each. It doesn't have
any additional information on them, however. Additional data on each
company would have to be manually mined from cold-calling. I would be
willing to do this to some level, but I don't know what kind of budget
you're working with.

Hello Aaron -

Just to clarify: The information I would post to you is unaffiliated
with the poster, bmcchgo-ga, below. bmcchgo-ga is not a Google
Answers Researcher, so he cannot claim any money directly through the
site. He can, however, post public contact information to a company
(posting private information is discouraged and it may be removed).

If you'd like, I would be willing to give you a link to purchase the
book that I've found, if you want to set your question price to
whatever you feel this link is worth. I'll let you determine that.
Note that you will have to pay an additional $65 for the book itself.
This would give you solely what's in the book -- no additional
information on the labels it lists other than contact information.

Hope I,m doing this right
all I need to know is that your contact the two other persons
mentioned before are kosher and the one in chicago specifically can
tell me what i need.
And that the link to the book you found is not a book I've seen before.

Those two issues...and your off to the bank !
I'll be right here to send back a speedy response.

Thanks jordan (but I still didn't see your previous response )

Anyone can post a comment on a question. In this particular case, a
user named "bmcchgo-ga" (who is not a Google Answers Researcher)
posted a comment to let you know he has a friend with connections. I
don't know who bmcchgo is, nor his friend. He hasn't been back to
comment on the question.

My resource is *only* the link to the book. Whatever you'd be willing
to pay for a link to the book (which costs $65) is what you should set
the question price to.

Thanks.

In fact, I'm going to post the link as a clarification, to see if you
know of the book I would post as an answer. It's called "A&R
Registry":

http://www.musicregistry.com/arprod.html

If you have not heard of this book, let me know, and I'll post this as
an answer to your $2 question. You can then add any additional funds
to it if you would like in the form of a tip.

Good lookin' out J,
These books are perfect! Sorry for the confusion if any.Since the annonymoua
poster per se' isn't getting back with me.That would have been the
motherload for me with that connect. So I'll make the link tip half of
the confused original
offer on my part.

Let's do more business in the future J.
Thanks and have a great weekend

Glad to hear the book(s) will work for you. As an official posting,
the URL again is:

With regard to the anonymous poster, what I would do is email
answers-editors@google.com, and ask the Editors if there is any way
for them to notify bmcchgo-ga that you replied to his comment, as you
believe he might have forgotten about this question (and there's no
notification of comment replies). Be sure to reference this question

Thanks, and please stop by again!

I just realized I answered this question at the price of $30 (you had
changed the actual list price of the question from $2 to $30 rather
than adding a $28 tip to the $2 question). You can scratch what I
said above about the "tip" portion.

Thanks again,

Hello,jbf777-ga !
Hey I just thought maybe I could help out with a few suggestions.
I mentioned in the previous posting .Music Industry resources such as
"The Billboard guides 2004/05
I would check these out myself but I can't afford them.didn't know if
your local library or industry contacts might have copies of the
latest edition(s).
I also (with no luck ) googled a search of "indie rec's " listed in
the state of Illinois for business.Maybe you could try your luck or
skill that way.
and if you could ( if you already haven't ) asked your contact about
distributers and who they service.
Soundcan is also a name you could drop they track sales. But again very very
expensive for a subscription.I'm trying to get a response from Billboard the
magazine and thier people journalists. I'm pretty much tapped on my end,
hope you have better luck jbf.

I'll be lookin' out for you
Thank's,
Aaron

Aaron,

I worked locally in sales here in Chicago for a major record
distributor for 16+ years! Although Radio & Records and Billboard
print a yearly phonebook of such info, the type of labels you're
looking are no doubt on their radar.

What I can do is put you in touch with a key Urban
retailer/wholesaler/one-stop, that can in turn put you in touch with a
good number of the folks you're looking for. Guaranteed your best
shot!

Lemme know...

Hi Aaron -

There are actually two ways to communicate on a question, a "comment"
and "clarification request". I actually responded to you a while ago
(on the same day) through the "clarification request" section. Take a
look way above the "comments" area to see the clarification request
area. You can actually respond through that (that's a better way,
since I'm notified of clarification requests, and not of comments).
Thanks.
