There is an old Chinese Astrology book I have been looking for which I
do not know the name of the author nor the actual title of the book. I
can tell you that this particular Chinese astrology book was an actual
"how-to" guide on how to develop a horoscope with the different
"houses". I can tell you that this book must have been published
before 1988. Towards the back end of the book was a star referance
guide along with year charts for the element and animal for each
person. The book also defines the meanings of each numbered star. The
types of horoscopes derived from this book are very specific and not
generalized like other astrology books which is why I really want to
find this book. The type of chart which the book shows you how to
create is a large square with several smaller squares encompassing it.
Can you provide me with a place I can buy this book from and the ISBN?

The book you're describing sounds a lot like "The Handbook of Chinese
Horoscopes" (1980) by Theodora Lau.

Here are some excerpts from reader reviews at Amazon.com:

"She also touches on how the hour of your birth will result in more
refined differences."

"It contains charts and tables detailing a myriad of Chinese
astrological influences -- the reader can focus on information down to
the hour of one's birth!"

Does this sound like your book?

It's really hard to tell based on the descriptions that these people
are giving. I do believe that there is, in fact, a table for the time
of birth as well which has to be adjusted to account for time zone.
There is one other detail about the book which could only be known
if you had access to the actual book. On the table which contains the
various houses, the author instructs one to place the star numbers on
the horoscope. I even believe the author suggests that the major stars
be markerd with a star symbol surrounding the number but I'm not 100%
sure of this. The more advanced chapers deal with cross influences
from one house to the next- this however isn't needed to do a basic
horoscope. The details of the star meanings are by no means anything
like what you find in 95% of the Chinese astrology books on the shelf
today. The forcasts are very blunt and very desciptive. For example,
one particular star indicates a problem with a certain eye and
predicts future blindness. Certainly not the kind of fortune one would
find in a fortune cookie :-D

I wonder if it could be "Chinese Astrology : Interpreting the
Revelations of the Celestial Messengers" (1987) by Derek Walters.

"hundreds of charts, diagrams and drawings."

Or possibly the companion volume "The Chinese Astrology Workbook: How
to Calculate and Interpret Chinese Horoscope" (1988) by the same
author.

"Derek Walters has put so much more into his workbook than "You were
born in the year of the Earth Tiger..." No, this book shows intricate
details of exquisite celestial Palaces and Heaven's Stars--the Purple
Palace of the Great Bear Constellation around the Pole Star; the Green
Dragon Palace of Spring, the White Tiger Palace of Autumn, the Red
Bird Palace of Summer, the Black Tortoise Palace of Winter; and much
more. I was particularly intrigued with the 28 Lunar Mansions, whose
stars can be compared to the 28 Nakshatras in Vedic Astrology. For
example, it seems to me that Chitra --the star Spica--compares to the
Chinese Lunar Mansion #1 The Horn (of the Dragon in the Green Palace
of Spring), both auspicious; and #11"

Anything sound familiar here?

The book which you had mentioned is not the book that I am looking
for. The book, I believe has a white background. I too have looked
through Amazon.com book descriptions before I had posted my question
here and have been unable to make a 100% positive identification of
the book. I suspect the name of the book is "Chinese Astrology" by "an
Nguyen". I don't want to buy this book however with solid proof that
this is, in fact, the book.

I meant in my last message to say "without solid proof"
