Hello funkt-ga,

It would help if you could define what are the criteria you're using
for determining who are the "better" employees. Also, what segment of
the hospitality industry are you considering? Here's a recent BLS
report on the hospitality industry to help you with the issues
involved. I look forward to your clarification.

As far as the hospitality industry is concerned, I'm much of the
oppinion that I would get better service from the average woman than
the average man. However, I'll also claim that the average man in the
hospitality industry had more opportunities outside of the hospitality
industry yet still chose that path. That suggests that the average
male working in hospitality enjoys his job more and/or feels good
about the job he does.

These of course lead to more smiles, friendlier interaction, a skip in
his step and a general positive attitude at work. At the same time,
the woman who was not given other opportunities and is stuck in the
hospitality industry due to few alternatives will be more disgruntled,
will scowl more often, will drag her feet, and be generally unhappy
all day.

It has in fact been my experience in my home town as well as in my
many travels around the US that the average male worker in hospitality
is superior to the average woman, however if you take the top 50% of
female workers versus the top 50% of male workers that difference
would probably not exist or would be opposite (since the disgruntled
women stuck in their job will fall in the lower 50%).

Another route you can take in this argument is the effect of
environment on a persons' mood. Women tend to be more affected by
small everyday occurances when men will often shrug them off and
ignore them. You might get boo'd out of the classroom if you talk
about a fundamental difference between men and women (depending on how
feminist your college is ... mine was very much so), but it's a
rational arguement.

As for websites, you are right they don't exist. You might be able to
find some articles about the natural differences between men and women
though.

Good luck!

These people did research on scholarly productivity difference between
men/women (specifically academic scholars and engineers). Although
not hospitality, it shows that men outproduced women.
