Hi mlj2004,

I believe the movie you remember is called The Malibu Bikini Shop.

"An admittedly minor effort, Malibu Bikini Shop is exactly what the
title indicates, but it's a surprisingly entertaining teen film and a
lot more enjoyable than most movies of this genre. A very youthful,
very blond Bruce Greenwood plays Todd, the sloppy but more amiable of
two brothers who inherit a beach-front bikini shop. The story centers
on the more serious brother (played by Michael David Wright) who wants
to sell the shop while wastral Todd is played for laughs. Greenwood's
extremely funny in an over the top performance that's right on target.
He has several engaging scenes, such as the "best tan" contest in
which he gives us a hint of how he might have looked as a rock artist,
his assault on a sexy "size 5" through a see-through mirror and a
scavenger hunt with neighborhood kids that employs those personal
mannerisms later to become familiar to his more observant fans.
There's lots of nudity, screechingly loud rock music and a badly
choreographed (and often cut) dance sequence, none of which directly
involves him and none of which matters much. The movie's a lot of fun
and Bruce Greenwood is laughably adorable running around in his
cut-off jeans and skimpy tank tops.

A severely cut version is shown frequently on The USA cable station.
The uncut film has been available on video for several years but is
becoming more difficult to find."

"Canadian character actor Bruce Greenwood spent the 1970s working in
regional Vancouver theater, and appeared in many Canadian TV shows
during the '80s. His first American film was a walk-on role in Rambo:
First Blood. In the U.S., he fared much better with television pilots,
miniseries, and made-for-TV movies. His first big role was Dr. Seth
Griffin on St. Elsewhere from 1986-1988."

"After inheriting a failing bikini shop, two recent grads decide to
make a go of it. One, in the hopes of building it into a successful
business, the other, in the hopes of getting to look at lots of women
in (and out) of swimsuits. As they try more and more outrageous ways
of drumming up business, their antics begin attracting some unwanted
attention."
