Howdy gw-ga,

At least some angels (angelic beings) are described in scriptures written by
Ezekiel and others, as having wings.

Web page titled "Angels: Clearing up some Misconceptions."
http://www.angelfire.com/mi/dinosaurs/angels.html

Seraphim, Cherubim, Thrones, Domination?s, Virtues, Powers, Principalities, and
Archangels

"Do Angels have wings?

The Bible does not say that all angels have wings. But the Bible does describe
the Seraphim, Cherubim and Thrones as having wings. But the others may not be
winged at all.

Seraphim?s each have six wings. (Isaiah 6:2 and Rev 4:6). The word 'Seraphim'
means 'burning ones' (Ezekiel 1:4).

Cherubim: The book of Ezekiel (10:3-22) describe them as having: a face, hands,
and wings ...

Another type of Angel that have wings are 'Thrones'. They are described as
having 4 faces, four wings.. and are the color of burnished brass."

The Got Questions Ministries web site has more information on cherubs.

Question: "What are cherubim? Are cherubs angels?"

"Answer: Cherubim / cherubs are angelic beings involved in the worship and
praise of God. The cherubim are first mentioned in the Bible in Genesis 3:24
..."

The Got Questions Ministries web site has more information on seraphs as well.

Question: "What are seraphim? Are seraphs angels?"

"Answer: The seraphim 'fiery, burning ones' are angelic beings associated with
the prophet Isaiah's vision of God in the Temple when he was called to his
prophetic ministry (Isaiah 6:1-7)."

This "Straight Dope" page on angels speaks to the above as well.

Also, 'angel' comes from the greek word, 'Angelos' which means
'messenger'. A messenger from heaven would need wings to get down
here. Even if one doesn't believe that Heaven is literally above us,
it is a convenient way of symbolizing the notionof a divine
message-bearer.

According to the Vedic( Indian ) tradition there are a race of
god-servants or demigods, named Gandharvas, who have human form but
are winged. They are described to be living in the material universe
in the heavely plantary systems where pious God centered people go.
Their activities are the costant glorification of the Supreme Lord
Krishna, his attributes, qualities and pastimes. It is accepted that
one cannot go to the spiritual world unless one is free from the
desire to enjoy materially or separately from God. Those who live a
very pious life and a devoted to God but a not cleased of the sinful
desires of lording over and controllin material energy may got to
'heaven' but not the spiritual world. for more info
