How do I password protect my Outlook 2003 profile in cached exchange mode I use Outlook 2003 to connect to a Exchange 2003 server via RPC over http. I use cached exchange mode. When I fire-up my Outlook,. it goes right into my stuff, It then present a dialog box to login to the server. if you hit cancel, you can still get to all my stuff by just firing up my outlook. How can I force OL to require a password to open my outlook profile? I share a machine with someone else and we each have our own Outlook profiles. I tried checking ?always prompt for username and password? in the profile settings, but that didn?t help. thanx in advnce |

Hi Sherpaj, It's me, bestsearcher-ga, again. Hope you've found a good USB2/FireWire card for your 600sc by now. Coming to your current query, It appears to me that you haven't specified the correct authentication method suited to your requirement. The default authentication method is Password Authentication (NTLM). I guess you have to use either a) Basic Password Authentication. Under BPA you will be prompted for a password each time a connection is made to the Exchange server. However, the password is sent in clear text under BPA posing a security risk. b) Using NTLM with the following check boxes checked: "Connect using SSL only" and "Mutually authenticate the session when connection with SSL" More information about this is available on the following Microsoft.com link: Configuring Outlook 2003 for RPC over HTTP http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/2003/three/ch8/OutC07.htm Microsoft has a guide describing four scenarios for deploying RPC over HTTP. You can download it from the following link: Exchange Server 2003 RPC over HTTP Deployment Scenarios Guide http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/exchange/2003/library/ex2k3rpc.mspx The following additional links have EXCELLENT step-by-step guides to configuring Outlook 2003 for Exchange RPC over HTTP: http://webmail.alabama.gov/faq_docs/webmail.pdf http://www.123together.com/Support/Setup_Outlook_2003_for_Exchange_RPC_over_HTTP.htm http://techrepublic.com.com/5102-6268-5172175.html http://www.outlookexchange.com/articles/HenrikWalther/RPC_over_HTTP.asp http://mavmail.mnsu.edu/rpcoverhttp/ http://www.kbalertz.com/kb_833401.aspx Hope the above solves your query. If you need additional assistance, please do not hesitate to write back. Regards, bestsearcher-ga |

I have to use Basic Password Authentication for my http over rpc to work. The prob is that is shows the emails in my cache. it doesn;'t require a password for this, just for connecting to the exchange server. The connection is irrelivant, since the googies are all in the cache. help. |
