Where is the record of the moving of my grandfather's corpse from NYC to DC in 1872? William E. Brown, stonecutter, of Washington, DC, died at age 53 in Bellvue hospital 8 Sep 1872. [My guess is that he as employed in building the "East River Bridge," now known as the Brooklyn Bridge.] His funeral was held 10 Sep 1872 in Washington, DC. If the body was transported from NYC back to DC, there should be records somewhere, documenting the permission [license?] to ship the body. |
