Question: I am a Canadian citizen and I have a good friend of mine, I
want to bring over from Nigeria. I have just finished my masters
degree and looking for work hence I do not have the financial status
to bring him here under sponsorship as a close relative (first
cousin). He on the other hand just has his high school qualifications,
a diploma / certificate in mechanic studies and has worked as a
kitchen supervisor for about four years in a high school. He has
applied for a visa for a visit but was denied.
I applied for an admission at Concordia University for him but he was
denied. I have been searching on-line for possible solutions to the
problem be-seting us. I have looked online for solutions including the
manitoba nominee program where I need to have at least $10,000 to
sponsor my friend.
I had consulted a lawyer who wrote a list of things to do and came
out with a $14,000 bill for his services and it was not even full
proof, he mentioned things like student visa e.tc. I do not have that
kind of money neither does my friend. Is there anything out there
that would make me bring my friend that would not require that much
amount of money?
I am aware that such matters may cost money. If it will require money,
will it be a definite and sure way out. In terms to what we (Him and
I) may bring to the table. We have been able to raise about $ 1500 .
We have not thought about refugee status because he is actually not in
that state..at least not for now.
What is /are the better alternatives for the project ?

I live in Canada and work for the overloaded Welfare Dept. My opion
only, but there are too many under educated and unqualified people
immigrating to Canada. Many of them end up on social assistance and
stay there.

May I suggest that, perhaps, your friend further his education and get
some kind of training before coming to Canada? That way at least he
may be able to support himself once he arrives.
