I would like to know the processes and requirements to become a member
of the clergy of various non-Abrahamic religions.
Specifically, I would like to know:
1) What is the title for a member of the clergy? (e.g.: ?Priest? in Catholicism)
2) What are the processes for becoming a member of the clergy? (e.g.:
several years at a seminary school for Catholicism)
3) Are there any requirements, vows, and the like required for members
of the clergy and, if so, what are they? (e.g.: a vow of chastity
being one requirement to be a Catholic priest)
4) Are there any groups of people excluded from membership in the
clergy? (e.g.: homosexuals not being permitted to become Catholic
priests)
The religions I?m interested in are:
Buddhism
Zen Buddhism
Taoism
Confucianism
Shinto
Oomoto (a.k.a. Omoto-kyo)
Hinduism
Jainism
Tenrikyo
Splitting larger religions (such as Buddhism, for example) into
smaller schools/sects is completely acceptable, similarly to if
Christianity were on the list it would make sense to split it up into
Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant, and Restorationist sects.
Thanks in advance! |
