Interesting question which I don't have an answer to but I would just point out a couple of aspects of it which might be significant: 1. Firstly when you say 'Oracle' I'm assuming you're referring to the Relational Database Management System of that name. 2. When you buy an Oracle licence the price you pay is dependent upon a number of factors (such as how big a machine it is being used on). So the number of units (or licenses) might be a bit misleading. If Oracle sold 100 licenses and , for instance, Microsoft sold 100 SQL Server licenses, the Oracle installations would typically be providing service to many more users as Oracle is typically used on 'big' machines (sorry I haven't put that very clearly but I hope you can understand it). 3. It is possible to obtain a copy of Oracle for development use only at no cost - you might or might not wish to include these licenses in your count. In summary depending upon why you want this information the number of 'units' might be more or less useful measurement. Hope you get an answer. Best Wishes R. |
