What are the profits and/or losses for major Hollywood films for say, the
last ten years? I understand Hollywood cost accounting is arcane and accurate
numbers are not available to we poor moviegoers. Basically, what I would
like to know, what major movies ( $50 million or more production costs )
made net profits or losses, based on published figures, which will reveal the
most successful directors and stars.

Pinkfreud: Hi Pink! Yes, post that as an answer and I will accept. I
knew the numbers can be nebulous. The site you named is likely as good
as can be expected.

I'm glad to have been able to find some useful figures for you. "The
Numbers" is a great site for box office info, and I was aware from
previous research that they had a page listing the most profitable
movies and biggest money-losers.

The Numbers: Movie Budget Records

Those lists make interesting reading. I am saddened to see that some
movies that I liked a lot (such as "Babe: Pig in the City") are on the
loser list. Guess I'm marching to a different drummer (or dancing and
ignoring the drumbeats entirely).

Best regards,
Pink
