Hi there. We are in the middle of renovating our 1978 house in
Scottsdale Arizona. We have a sunken living room. We are about to
'fill it in' with concrete. To make the house all one level.

After we do this, how long do we have to wait before installing
flooring? We are using cork flooring, planks, from this company:
http://www.naturalcork.com/main.html

I have gotten conflicting answers from contractors, from 7 days to 60
days. I want to do what is right for the flooring. We're spending too
much money to have our floors absorb moisture and need replacing.

The room is sized 20x15 feet and 5 inches depth.

Thanks for your help!

It varies depending on the sort of concrete you use.

You can get some 'quick drying' stuff.

You are going to fill a 5" well with concrete.

How about filling 4", giving it a few days then putting down a
membrane and using self levelling mixture for a skim.

Hi, frde

You are right!

That's the way to do it.

Now, why didn't I think of that?

Because, many years ago, you did not watch the builders filling in the
cellar of my parent's house. In them days we had earth floors.

However, and I am apprehensive of this, I have heard of expanded
polystyrene used as a filler under concrete floors.
Personally I am not sure that this is a good idea.

I am also inclined to suggest that the questioner should build a hypocaust.
The concept of underfloor cooling in Arizona is rather interesting.

A hypocaust?

I believe that's another name for a Moonshine Liquor thing.

Another great idea!

Wow, frde, your parents seem to have brung you up real smart.

Great stuff!

BTW 'frde' aint so friendly ... Have you got a friendlier moniker, I can use?

(Just between me and you, you understand.)

All the Best

Sure, FRDE is just a joke translation of my name ... reversed.
