what digital cable box model does pittsburgh comcast use and can you
buy them on line?

Comcast uses two different manufacturers for their cable boxes,
depending on whether or not you want DVR or not.  One other comment is
that owning the box is legal provided you inform the cable operator
you intend to use their service (in other words, pay for it).
