I am trying to bring a new drink to market for children. I am having a
hard time finding a company to package my drink into a juice box. The
ones I have found already have contracts with others, or have too
large of a minimum (25,000 boxes), or are major companies like
Hershey's, Mott's and Libby's, who won't package for me since I am or
would be, rather, a competitor. My question is... does anyone out
there know of a company that will package my drink product? I already
have the company who has made my recipes for me and said he would ship
the product in powder form to my packager. I have been sitting on this
idea for almost three years now. I have done a whole lot of research
and then get frusterated going around in circles. Also, if you have
anything to add that you know off the top of your head as far as
shipping and labeling, or, if you have any questions for me that will
help you more with your research, please let me know. Thank you,
Violet

One possibility is to try a service that matches packers with
potential customers. Have a look at this site:

http://www.vendorseek.com/forms.asp?category_id=66

You might even want to fill in their form and/or contact them for more information.

Let me know if this sort of thing is of interest to you, or if you
only want direct contacts with companies that can package your product
for you.

Hi, thank you for answering my question. The website you gave me might
be of help. I logged on to their site and entered all the info they
asked for. They said I would hear from them within a few hours, but I
haven't heard from them yet.... that was last week. Yes, I would like
some direct contacts with some companies that would work with smaller
orders. I definitly want a company that will be able to package my
product into juice boxes. I have a couple companies that can do the
squirt water bottle and one that will do the pouch, but I'm set on the
juice box. I hopw this helps, write me if you need more clarification.

Hello -

Can you tell us the largest order (quantity) with which you're willing to work?

I wish I knew, I am in the beginning stages as far as finally getting
my idea in the works. Like I said, I have a company that have already
made my recipes and I have already approved of them, we just need to
find the right company to package them in a juice box.I had spoken
with a company in the beginning of this year that said most companies
have a lot minimum of twentyfive thousand, which was definitly too
much. I'm starting small so that I don't get in over my head. I need
to put my product on the shelves and go from there as far as seeing
how many I will sell and up my lot size from there. If you could
supply a few companies and quotes or just put me in contact with the
right person who will do this for that would be great.
Thank you, Violet

Can you do a rough ballpark estimate? Perhaps under 5,000? Under 10,000?

violet13-ga,

Phew!

These packaging companies are hard to track down!

Give these folks a call:

Steuben Foods
70 Empire Dr
Buffalo, NY 14224
(716) 668-7942
or
(716) 826-5263

and let me know if this pans out as a possibility.

P.S. Any word back from Vendorseek folks...?

Hi Violet,

Hope you got out and voted today!

I wanted to check in and find out if you heard anything from Steuben
Foods...are they a possibility?

Let me know what you think.

Violet,

That's a bit of a mystery about Steuben, because I certainly had a
source that indicated otherwise!

This is still proving to be a tough nut to crack. You might want to
contact TetraPak directly, as they are the major manufacturers of the
juice boxes themselves, and may be able to provide some leads that
would be appropriate to your situation. You can read about their
packaging at:

http://www.tetrapakusa.com/tetra_brik.asp

and you can take advantage of their contact form at:

http://www.tetrapakusa.com/solu_Info.asp

I'd be glad to contact them myself, if you prefer, but my experience
has been that questions to companies are always answered with
questions -- When do you want to begin production?...How many
units?....What is your budget...? and so on, and I can never respond
to these very effectively. I suggest you make the contact yourself,
but again, I'd be glad to do it for you if that's your preference.

Good luck...

Violet -

Pafalafa is quite correct about the difficulty uncovering this kind of
company -- after speaking to several myself, I have found most are
indeed working with much higher quantities.

I did just receive a return call on one company who claims they can
work with a 5,000 - 10,000 quantity plus setup fees. Contact
"Universal Plastic" below, and ask for a representative named Nat.
Reference "Google Answers" if you'd like, as that would give context
for the call.

If this doesn't work out, please let me know.

Universal Plastic

Hi, Violet. If I were you I'd can the box for now (no pun intended!).
Why not try a bottler for now? You could check with, for instance,
A-Treat in Allentown, PA, or someone like them. And perhaps someone
like that--a smaller producer--might help you launch such a product.
Check out the mfrs of "generic" soda at your local food market too. If
nothing else, they may have suggestions for you on where to go for
more help.

Violet,

You called the wrong plant for Steuben Foods. Call the main plant:

716-655-4000
1150 Maple Rd.
Elma, NY
