I backed up my Outlook 2003 .pst file to a CD 2 weeks ago. My
harddrive crashed last week. When I copy the backup .pst to my new
harddrive (making sure "read only" is not checked) and attempt to
import it I get a message that says "(name).pst is not a personal
folders file." It is impossible for that to be true. It's not read
only so i can't figure out what could have happened. scanpst.exe
doesn't even recognize it.

I have tried EasyRecovery.com's Email Repair tool and
OfficeRecovery.com's Outlook Recovery tool - both state that the file
cannot be recovered.

Many many people seem to have had this same problem. "I see this same
question in many newsgroups and no one can give a solution including
Microsoft." another person wrote.

I am running Outlook 2003 on XP SP2. How can I personally fix this
file and use it again?

May the force be with you.

you can point Outlook to use the backup file on a regular basis,
instead of importing it. Outlook has a setting that determines what
folder it saves your personal option in. Point all of these to your
folder names "backup".
