What answer do I give the message "word automatically saved changes to
the normal document template. Do
you want to load it?" I get this when I try to open Word. I don't
know if a virus changed it or if Word will automatically save a
correct version or what this means. I was trying to open an e-mail
attachment and my machine locked up. I use Norton Anti-virus and I'm
using Windows 98 2nd edition.

Hi fairylander,

First, try something that is fairly easy to do and which solves many problems.

Close Word.

Click Start / Find / type in the named field: normal.dot / click Find Now.

If your normal.dot file comes up, right click on it and choose Rename.
Type: abnormal
Click somewhere else to set it. Close the Find File box.

Start Word. Word will automatically create a new normal.dot file.

You can read about normal.dot here:
http://pubs.logicalexpressions.com/Pub0009/LPMArticle.asp?ID=151

If this doesn't solve your problem, you can always restore your old
file by renaming the abnormal.dot back to normal.dot again.

I also think it would be a good idea to run HouseCall, a very thorough
online virus scan. It often finds things that other programs miss.

HouseCall:

Please let me know if this solved your problem so that I'll know to
either post this as an answer or continue to look for a solution.

Thank you,
hummer

No, you didn't answer my question. I asked What answer do I
give...that means a yes or no answer. I also said that it is when I
try to open Word. I can not close Word since I can not open it until
I answer the dang question. Although your answer is probably full of
good things, it does not answer my question.
