Question ID: 418236
I am looking for a product that has a retractable CAT-5 cable similar
to the following products:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000094FRJ
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=51182&item=5727194934&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

However, ideally I'm looking for one with a longer cord (10'+) because
I'm often in group meetings where I can't sit right next to the wall
outlet.

Does anyone know if such a product exists?

Thanks!

jpbischke-ga:

If you can't find a long one, consider getting two of the shorter ones
and a coupler/connector like the one shown here
http://deepsurplus.site.yahoo.net/cat5euncoupw.html and connect them
together.

Try this link for an 8 foot cable from Comp-USA

And hooking up a wireless access point at the outlet is out of the
question because...?

...because I attend a university and we use breakout rooms for group
meetings. We're always in different rooms and therefore carrying
around and setting up a wireless access point at every meeting seems a
bit of a pain for me. Then again, so has been finding a decent
retractable network cord. :)

:) OK, I get it :) OTOH, think of how nice it would be that so many
other people can benefit from the WAP at the same time :). Of course,
I understand that you'd also be under a budget. Hmm.. $29 is
reasonable considering what you'd pay for two cables plus connector (a
good idea from athena4-ga!) http://www.shentech.com/mibrne10etwi.html
:)
I daresay it's cheap enough that you could "accidentally" leave it ...
talk to your tech department to see what their opinion might be. On
one hand, it's a *good thing* ... on another, I don't know how tech
would feel about adding an open hotspot, permanently. If it helps any,
the router could prevent rogue access from the LAN to wireless
systems, but probably not much the other way around.

The google context sensitive advertisement at the top of this question
pointed me to:

Only 8 foot, tho.
