Along the lines of 'Spinal Tap' and 'Bad News' in the mid 1980's on
English TV there was a spoof 'Rockumentary' named something along the
lines of :

Pookisnackenburger : Hell Bent

It featured a 'Black Metal' band recording their album in an old
church somewhere in the Westcountry of England.
The video featured a song named 'this is the night of the chicken'
which according to the character sold '15M copies in finland (or
sweden?) alone'.

There was also a scene in which a childrens program about the alphabet
said 'C is for Chainsaw', and a song which featured mock lating
containing the phrase 'Aston Villarus Gralll'. Aston Villa being an
English Football team.

I hope you can find this, because my friends don't believe that the
program really existed.

Hello Gragnar,

Yes, the program certainly did exist.

From the BBC website:

"Pookiesnackenburger In...
UK, C4 (After Image), Musical humour, Colour, 1985
Starring: Sue Bradley, Paul Clare, Luke Cresswell

Five programmes of scripted prose and musical zaniness - each pursuing
a different comedic idea. All of the material was written, composed
and performed by Pookiesnackenburger, a six-piece group of musical
entertainers, with the emphasis on comedy, who formed in Brighton in
1981 and were 'discovered' while busking in Covent Garden, London, a
year later. (The name Pookiesnackenburger was coined after a character
heard by the band on a compilation album of 1960s American radio
recordings.)
Twelve months in the making, the series was commissioned by C4 after
the group had taken part in lively 'filler' items in 1983."

"Paddy Grove" also recalls the "Hell Bent" episode :

"Hi,

All this stuff about Bad News reminded me of this. Does anyone remember a
series shown a few years back (about 5?) on Channel 4 (UK) involving a group
of musos calling themselves Pookiesnackenburger? I seem to remember most of
it was fairly crap, but there was one episode where thay were supposed to be
a satanic heavy metal band (hence the Bad News reference), which was very
good. I think the episode was called "Hell Bent", and involved this band
recording their new album in a rural recording studio, and also doing some
incantations to summon up the devil (successfully, in the end)

    Bits I remember :

The lead singer was called Sherman Tank, and the drummer was called
Visigoth (and was a bit like Animal form the Muppets)

Their previous albums were 'Slaughter on the Water' ("sold Fifteen million
copies in Finland alone"), and "Kilowatt surge".

There was a brilliant scene where they go into the local village pub
where the locals are having a folk evening ("With a
dum-dum-diddle-um-diddle-dum-dum"), and the beer ("Old Jake's Dark & Musty")
turns to goats' blood etc.

Of course, none of this is remotely funny written here, but does it
trigger anyone's memory? Does anyone have it on tape?

    Paddy"

I'm no stranger to digging about on the internet myself, but I've
never managed to turn up a result. Thank you very much.
Don't suppose you know how to get things like this from the BBC do you?
It would be worth the final star?

As it was not released commercially, ordering a copy from the BBC
would not be possible unless you yourself had actually appeared in the
show.

"Q. What if I still can't find what I seek?
A. Some things are never released commercially. If you've tried all
these things but not found what you want there's a good chance it is
simply not available at the present time. We do not know when, and if,
programmes will be released, sorry - we don't reply to emails asking
us about DVD releases as there are many other ways of finding this
information.

Q. I missed my favourite show, can I get a copy on VHS from the BBC?
A. No. Sorry. Copyright restriction prevents this. If the show is not
available commercially we can not help.

Q. I was actually in a show years ago. Can I get a copy?
A. Yes, you need to write to: Contributor Access, Rm LG26CB Bush
house, PO Box 76, Strand, London WC2B 4PH, giving details of the
programme and how you were featured. You will have to sign a contract
limiting future use of the tape and you will have to pay for
duplication."

I loved the band and used to know them a bit (i.e. I thought I knew
them but they probably didn't really know me from Adam) so I taped the
whole series. I just checked all my old VCRs but transferred special
ones to DVD before trashing them so...
upshot is I have a copy of the complete series on DVD. Drop me a line
if you are interested and I'll see what I can do.
Cheers

'Our music explores the darker reaches of the human psyche'
'Ya, it say so in Kerrang'

Think the singer was actually called Sherman Krank rather than Sherman Tank.

If anyone does have a copy of this episode, I'm willing to pay for it
(within reason!)
