I need information for a patient on lingerie fetish in heterosexual
males. I believe the best objective information on this is going to
be from the Netherlands. I don't want to encourage his pathologizing
himself. Specifically, the incidence and prevelance of this specific
fetish and secondly some estimation of the incidence and prevelence of
these types of fetishes would be helpful. I'd also like the references
for the key articles you use. Thank you.

Hello chrisstu-ga,

In a search of several medical databases, I did not come across any
information specific to cases of "lingerie fetish" although its
possible that some other term(s) are in use to describe this
particular form of attachment.

There are a number of articles that deal more generally with clothing
fetishes and cross-dressing, though it's hard to know in advance how
relevant these are to the particular case you're involved with.

The most specific study in terms of incidence information surveyed
more than 1,000 cross-dressers, and presents statistics based on the
following categories:

"...We divided the present sample into two groups using the following
question: "I feel myself to be: (a) a woman trapped in a man's body
(b) a man who has a feminine side that seeks expression occasionally
(c) a man with a sexual fetish for feminine clothing."

=====

Another study gives a broad overview of variant sexual behavior, but
not a heck of a lot of statistics about specific fetish types.

Neither study has much to say about the prevalence of such fetishes in
the overall population.

Is there a particular reason you feel that the Netherlands is an
especially good source of information? Are the journals or studies
there that I should focus more attention on?

Let me know your thoughts.

do!

The study that divided the sample resulting in a condition represented
as "a man with a sexual fetish for feminine clothing" is at the core
of my question. My client is a heterosexual male in a heterosexual
male's body <g> but uses feminie clothing to arouse himself during
masturbation.

A little more clarification: I'm a clinical psychologist. This
behavior in the US is defined as a paraphilia in the DSM-IV. Other
paraphilias are pedophilia, sexual sadism, transvestic fetishism. My
understanding is that in the Netherlands the behavior is not
considered pathological so there is more naturalistic data available.
Hope this helps.

There is nothing wrong with it... people have all kinds of fetishes,
and as long as they're harmless to others, who cares!

<I don't want to encourage his pathologizing himself.>

Are you saying that HE has a problem pathologizing himself?

I guess I'm asking: is it his problem? or your problem?
