How do I load and run my own software on a TiVo?

Hello Tommrypilot,

Based on an initial look, the answer will depend on what kind of TiVo
you have and how comfortable you are at "hacking" your TiVo. For
example, do you understand what is suggested at

Some of the steps may also require a PC running Linux and some
possible hardware modifications.

I suggest you answer the following questions in a clarification.

Can you describe which kind of TiVo / what version of software it has?
Do you have a Linux PC available?
Are you comfortable installing / removing hardware inside PC's?
