Does any US maker of salad dressings produce a Roquefort cheese
variant? I'm speaking of the real McCoy, French Roquefort made from
sheeps' milk.
Litehouse used to made a Roquefort dressing and it's still available
in local (St. Augustine) markets, though it has disppeared from the
company's web site, so it may be on the way out. Marie's test marketed
a "premium" Roquefort dressing about three years ago, but my query to
its web site resulted in "we decided not to add it to our inventory of
dressings."
I realize that one can make Roquefort dressing at home (either with
crumbled cheese in a vinaigrette or a cream style with mayonnaise),
but what I seek is a commercially bottled version of either variant. |

I hadn't been aware of that extraordinary tariff. No wonder the stuff
has disappered from the shelves! Dressing makers, like coffee
distributors, like to charge exactly the same price for every variant.
Reminds me of why one can't find pure Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee on
supermarket shelves, except as a blend.
Do you think we've hit a brick wall on this one? The Australian option
is undersirable, even if they do ship to the States (the shipping cost
no doubt exceeds that for the product).

We may have hit a wall. The Amazon link is a walnut flavored
Roquefort if that will work. I am still digging.

No, I wouldn't want a walnut flavored (or anything flavored) Roquefort.

Ukrop's has Litehouse listed as a product on their website. Not sure
if there is one near you or if they still carry it.

I can still get Litehouse Roguefort here in St. Augustine, but a) it's
a rather "thin" dressing (they must skimp on the cheese content) and
b) since Roquefort dressing no longer appears on Litehouse's web site,
I have a feeling it will soon disappear from the shelves.

No bottled Roquefort dressing (other than Litehouse) anywhere in the
US of A <sob>? Am getting ready to throw in the towel on this one. Or
maybe the cheesecloth.
