I have the Microsoft Wireless Desktop Elite Keyboard and Mouse combo
(I know, ugh) and I just installed Gentoo. The mouse and keyboard
came together, and share a wireless receiver which connects the
keyboard to the computer via PS2, and the mouse via USB. I'm running
the latest xorg with the latest KDE. If just the mouse is plugged in,
and the keyboard is unplugged, or some other PS2 keyboard is plugged
in, everything works fine. However, when the Microsoft keyboard and
mouse are plugged in at the same time, the mouse behaves strangely,
moving, for the most part, only vertically, and randomly clicking
while being moved.

I'm somewhat new to linux, but know my way around pretty well. This
is my first attempt with Gentoo, though. I searched Google and wasn't
able to find any solution, but you guys tend to be a little better at
that than I am. Anything to help would be appreciated.

Just wondering if someone is actively working on this, or if I should
go try to get some sleep...

I can't close this question, because it is still locked. However, I
no longer need assistance, as I have solved the problem by connecting
the mouse through a USB->PS2 adapter. Unless someone is actually
working on this question at the moment, and is ready to provide a
solution for me to use where I don't need the adapter, please close
this question.
