I'm looking for advertisments placed in black newspapers and other media outlets targeting black consumers during the late 1800's-mid 1900's. I'm looking for an online resource that will give me access to a collection of ads by black-owned business and/or ads that targeted black consumers during this time period. I'm not looking for racists/sterotypical advertisments that depicted blacks in a negative way!! To give an example of the types of ads I'm looking for: Madam CJ Walker was one of the first female millionaires in the US. She started and operated a very lucrative hair care products business in the late-early 1900's. I would be interested in gaining access to ads she used to promote her business during her time. To sum things up, what I'm basically looking for are black marketing masters and examples of their work from that time period in history. I'm a young aspiring copywriter and I'm seeking to study marketing ads by and to blacks in history. |
