Question ID: 42107
We had Exchange 2000, PDC, AD,DNS,WINS and DHCP all on one server. We
promoted a different DC as the primary, use this server for AD, WINS,
DNS, DHCP and then took our Exchange server out of the member group
and removed DNS, AD, WINS, DHCP. MSExchange2000 is now the only app
runing on the server. We cannot synchronize with AD and Microsft
Exchange System Attendant will not start. We're getting an error
WIN32 ID NO. C0007054b MSExchange SA. What is wrong? Do we have to
change any options on the new AD server since we are now running
Exchange 2000 on a separate server?

Microsoft knowledgebase article Q252137 [1] describes the cause of the
error as "The computer running Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server cannot
contact a global catalog server."

See the referenced KB article for information about how to resolve
this problem.

Have you tried to see if your DC/GC is functioning correctly???? Check your
DNS, if it cannot find a DC/GC it will give you these errors.
You will need to use ADSIEDIT.exe to see if the Exchange 2000 Server entries
are still there.

Before you to took the demoted your previous PDC did you A)Move your 3
masters and the global catalog over to the new domain controller. B)
Make a full back up of Active Directory that you are able to restore.

You need to check that you have your masters and global catalog on
your new controller. If not, there are many different answers to your
problem.

If active directory is OK. Try running \setup\i386\setup.exe
/disasterrecovery from the exchange 2000 CD on the exchange server.
Back up server first.
This should solve your problems.
