are there any definitive medical definitions ????

is it 20 or 30 muscles, or does it depend on the cat?

i am particularly interested in domestic cats.

A cat's ear pivots 180 degrees. They have 30 muscles in each ear,
and use twelve or more muscles to control their ear movement.

More than 20 muscles in each ear enable a cat to move her ears like
radar dishes and pinpoint the source of a sound. The two ears can
rotate in different directions, as well.

Cats have amazing hearing ability. A cat's ear has 30 muscles that
control the outer ear (by comparison, human ears only have six
muscles). These muscles rotate 180 degrees, so the cat can hear in all
directions without moving its head.
