I'm writing a paper and I need the following lines edited. I also
need some suggestions on additional information to include. The whole
thing needs to be about 250 words. I need a quick response if
possible. Thanks.

Public attitudes to-wards the role of homosexuals in the military has
seen a steady increase over the last three decades. According to a
poll conducted in June 1977, 51 percent of the public responded that
homosexuals should be allowed to serve in the military. In a similar
poll conducted in May 2002, 72 percent of the public responded that
homosexuals should be allowed to serve in the military ().
Homosexuals in the general public have effectively functioned as
brothers, bosses, coworkers, athletes, police offices, entertainers,
investment advisor's, attorneys, and the list goes on and on since the
possibilities are endless. Since homosexuals have functioned so
effectively in the general public there is no reason to think that
they should not be an effective member of the military () Gays or
lesbians should be allowed to serve their country without
discrimination.

Hello stu_my~

Here is your text, edited for clarity, grammar, and spelling. Major
changes are noted by brackets:

Public [attitude] [about] the role of homosexuals in the military has
[gained] steady [interest] over the last three decades.

[According to a poll conducted in June [of] 1977, [for example],
[fifty-one] percent of the public [believed] that homosexuals should
be allowed to serve in the military. In a similar poll conducted in
May [of] 2002, [a larger number, seventy-two percent, believed] that
homosexuals should be allowed to serve in the military.

[As part of our society,] homosexuals have effectively functioned as
brothers, bosses, coworkers, athletes, police offices, entertainers,
investment advisor's, attorneys, and [much, much more]. Since
homosexuals have functioned so effectively in the general public,
there is no reason to think that
they should not be effective members of the military, [also]. Gays
[and] lesbians should be allowed to serve their country without
discrimination.

This is 134 words.

You might strengthen your argument that homosexuals are just like
everyone else (and therefore should be allowed to serve in the
military). For example, you could look at this article, which
discusses (among other things) the history of homosexuality in the
military:

?Homosexuals in the Military,? Wall Builders:
http://www.wallbuilders.com/resources/search/detail.php?ResourceID=8

Also check out ?Homosexuals in the Military,? Cyber Essays:
http://www.cyberessays.com/Politics/136.htm , which looks at the issue
in terms of American rights.

In addition, this piece looks at how the issue has been dealt with in
other nations: ?Changing the Policy Toward Homosexuals in the U.S.
Military,? Rand Research: http://www.rand.org/publications/RB/RB7537/

Adding these arguments (rephrased in your own words, of course) should
easily bring your piece up to the desired word count.

Kind regards,
Kriswrite

You might also make the point that one obstacle to homosexuals - that
they are living in close quarters with others of the same sex -
diminishes now that heterosexual men and women work and live together
in many military units without a breakdown in discipline or morality.
