Each state administers their Gov. Fed Employee's Standard BC/BS programs differently. Oklahoma follows FDA guidelines written many years ago, and considers Ambien to be tolerant inducing and therefore limits a subscriber to one 30 day 10 mg. prescription per year. Other state programs adhere to more recent research, and realize that the non-benzodiazepine Ambien does not induce tolerance and places no limit on their prescription, following the physician's best judgment. Can you supply a state-by state list of the state's Blue Cross? attitude in this regard? |

I think you are incorrect as to state regulation of the federal employees health benefits program. You need to clarify as to what regulatory agency limits the filling of the prescription. Have you called BC/BS directly to inquire? Can your doctor provide the information? Have you contacted OPM and raised the issue with them? Seems that as long as your doctor writes the prescription your mail order pharmacy would fill it. |
