does anyone know of a movie shown in the early 1970's that was set in france. the plot involved a young man and young woman (mid to late teens) who fall in love and run away since the young man's wealthy (diplomat?) father disapproves of the relationship. the couple are happily settled in a vineyard where the young man works, they have a baby, and then the father's henchmen abduct the man? believe it or not, i've been trying to locate this movie for the past 30 years. thanks for any help. |

Hello jackspratt, I wonder if I can ask a few questions? * Where did you first see the film? * Is it in French or English? * Is it set contemporaneously (ie set in '60s/70s France)? Merci, * j * |

Jackspratt, I believe the name of the film you are referring to is ?Friends?. The synopsis of the 1971 British production matches your description. To confirm if this is in fact the case the following may be helpful: http://www.clevelandmemory.org/mastroianni/tm417.shtml http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/6302658845/104-9895183-3540734?v=glance#product-details http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0067118/ http://homevideo.paramount.com/Catalog?cmd=display_product_page&release_id=1442 Extract from Leonard Maltin?s Movie and Video Guide 1993 ?Friends (1971-British). Bomb Director: Lewis Gilbert Cast: Sean Bury, Anicee Alvina, Pascale Roberts, Sady Rebbot, Ronald Lewis. Yucky early-teen romance about French * boy and girl who run off to the seashore, set up housekeeping, and have a baby... then Mommy and Daddy show up to take them home. Popular in its day, primarily due to Elton John song score. Buy the album instead. Sequel (!): PAUL AND MICHELLE. (R)? *Commenters Note: Mr Maltin is incorrect as to nationality of the boy. He is British not French. Kind regards, gfmaster |

julicollins, you're right...gfmaster nailed it. gfmaster, thanks for the answer. after reading the reviews and plot, i'm almost embarrassed to be interested in the movie, but in 1971, it must have made an impression on me. gfmaster, thanks again! |
