Please read my previous question before answering http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=404784 ---------------------------------------------------------- Two days ago I smoked my first cigarette and shortly after I smoked it, I went to the bathroom for number 2 and it went perfect(no pushing and all the waste came out). I smoked today and the day before and I experienced the same results so I know it's not a coincidence. Is there a relationship between smoking and releasing waste? Please adivse. So far I feel very healthy, every morning I just smoke a ciggerette and as soon i'm done smoking it I go the bathroom. It's like magic. |

Dear jet19ski-ga; Thank you for allowing me to answer your interesting question. ?Is there a relationship between smoking and releasing waste?? Yep. Nicotine is a stimulant and has long been known to have a laxative effect on some people. It affects the bowel in much the same way caffeine does. In fact, using guinea pigs as test subjects, researchers have studied the stretch receptors in the animal?s ileum by stimulating them to relax and prompt ?peristalsis? (the contraction that enables bowel movement) with various protagonists including nicotine. PUB MED ?Evidence that stretch receptors for peristalsis are located in the mucosal layer of the guinea pig ileum.? http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=PubMed&list_uids=1491515&dopt=Abstract BRITISH JOURNAL OF PHARMACOLOGY ?Inhibition of peristalsis in guinea-pig isolated ileum and colon by drugs that block prostaglandin synthesis? http://www.brjpharmacol.org/cgi/content/abstract/57/3/335 The Knowledge Database web site states emphatically that nicotine has a physiological effect on peristalsis (bowel movement) in humans: ??nicotine is highly toxic. A 60 mg overdose of nicotine is fatal. But consider that the average cigarette contains 0.5 mg of nicotine. The physiological effects of nicotine include (1) vasoconstriction of peripheral blood vessels, (2) increased peristalsis,?? THE KNOWLEDGE DATABASE http://www.channels.nl/knowledge/13564.html I hope you find that my research exceeds your expectations. If you have any questions about my research please post a clarification request prior to rating the answer. Otherwise I welcome your rating and your final comments and I look forward to working with you again in the near future. Thank you for bringing your question to us. Best regards; Tutuzdad-ga ? Any strong drug can have this effect. Even caffeine, so it's not rurprising nicotine does this. It may level off with time, and certainly constipation is not a good excuse for the health hazards of smoking. Kriswrite |

From the site I mentioned above: "However, smoking has a detrimental effect on general health, such as: ? an increased risk of coronary heart disease. ? an increased risk of lung disease. It is also well documented that smoking causes lung cancer. ? an increased risk of peripheral vascular disease (blood clots and narrowing of the leg veins). ? reduced absorption of vitamins and minerals and altered taste perception of foods. ? reduced general fitness. ? premature ageing of the skin. It would, therefore, seem more prudent to take a more simple and conventional laxative such as Fybogel, Normacol methylcellulose (Celevac) or Lactulose, together with a sensible eating plan rather than smoking cigarettes." |

Hi, jet19ski-ga: Cigarette smoking does risk bad health consequences, but these are in large measure dependent on how much one smokes. From what I gather you've already started smoking, if only at a level of one cigarette a day. Cigarette manufactures have given particular attention to designing their product to encourage additional consumption, so you might find yourself at higher levels of smoking down the road. For recent findings on how tobacco promotes oral cancers: [Cigarette smoke transforms healthy saliva into a deadly cocktail that can accelerate mouth cancer] http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/index.php?newsid=9003 I suppose I'd recommend drinking caffinated tea or coffee instead, or perhaps combining one of these with only the minimal portion of a tobacco "dose" needed to obtain the desired bowel relief. Be gentle with yourself! As my mom's sweatshirt says, "If I'd known I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself." regards, mathtalk-ga |
