movie where man is reincarnated into a dog with Bonnie Hunt

Are you sure it had Bonnie Hunt? There is a film with Nancy Travis as
the lead that meets those plot lines, but nothing in Bonnie Hunt's
filmography with that storyline. The film I have found is about a man
who dies in an auto accident and comes back as a dog, but remembers
some of his old family and returns to protect them. Could this be the
film you are referring to?

Could the movie be "Beethoven (1998)" - a film about a dog called
Beethoven which stars Bonnie Hunt? (though technically the plot of the
film did NOT involve anyone being reincarnated as a dog).

Some films not starring Bonnie Hunt, but about people being reincarnated as dogs:-
"Dad's a Dog (1989)" where a man gets a job on a show about a man who
has been reincarnated as a dog.
"Fluke (1995)" - A man dies in an auto accident and comes back to life as a dog
"She Took a Powder (1951)" - comedy short about a mongrel dog who was
previously a human.

there was also the old Chevy Chase & Benji movie, "Oh Heavenly Dog" I
believe, where he was a detective who dies and comes back as Benji to
solve a murder, but the female was Jane Seymour.
