I am a Canadian Certified General Accountant trying to find work in
the Caribbean.I want to cut all ties to Canada and get out of the cold
on a permanent basis. I am finding it difficult to find good job
posting websites that cater to the islands and would appreciate your
help- I have used escapeartist, monster, hcareers and the like.
Perhaps if someone can give me headhunter firms and/or management
consultants. I am looking at Turks and Caicos, Bahamas, Bermuda,
Cayman Islands, Barbados . I have senior managerial experience and
work in the airline industry currently but do not expect to find work
in this industry as jobs are hard to come by. I am looking for a
senior manager role either as a controller or accounting manager,
would consider returning to BIG 4 but don't need that info as already
have it.

accountantonthemove,

I'm putting this in "Comments" because Google isn't accepting new
researchers at the moment. The idea of relocating to the islands
piqued my interest so I spent a few hours on it gratis.

I see what you mean about difficulty in finding good job-listing
sites. I'll give you what I found and then some creative ideas and
links to help. [All links are in no particular order.]

Networking is the key to landing a great job... but since you are not in the
caribbean [yet] that might not seem to be an option. However, who says
you can't take advantage of the networks that do exist there? I found a
personal website that seems to focus on tourism, but you might be able to
plug in to some resources at

http://www.geocities.com/TheTropics/Shores/2477/index.html

Don't stop there... begin contacting your caribbean peers at the following
and other professional sites!

http://www.caribbean-business.com/
http://www.caribccu.org/
http://www.caribinfo.com/accountants.html
http://www.caribank.org

Some other sources to network with can probably be found at

http://www.thebahamaschamber.org

A *very* powerful group to make contact with your target would be
~Realtors!~ Contact the realtors and let them do your networking for
you. They *know* the movers and shakers! When you find a home or apt
that you like, tell the realtor you'd like to make an offer, but
cannot until you acquire the position you want. You can bet they want
your business and will do everything they can to land it.

http://www.caribbean-apartments.co.uk/home.asp
http://www.caribbeanproperty.co.uk/
http://www.caribbean-realty.com/

Those were just some that I found- I bet you can find even more. [Also
network with local travel agencies, churches, "Welcome Wagon,"
car/bike/cycle dealers, schools for the kids, social/golf/etc clubs,
market/retail centers and so on. You're going to be living there, so
you might as well start making the contacts now and perhaps find some
leads for the job you're looking for at the same time.]

If you're interested in public service, I found the pdf application of
the Bermuda Govt.

http://www.gov.bm

It can be downloaded at
http://www.gov.bm/portal/server.pt/gateway/PTARGS_0_2_1267_311_0_43

We know that the best jobs aren't to be found in the newspaper, but you
~can~ get info about realtors, banks and business in them. (You might
check the want ads too!)

And finally, here are some other search engines and link sites that you can
explore; not only for employment info, but for all of your moving,
relocation and transfer needs. (In no particular order.)

http://www.caribinfo.com/

I hope that I've jogged your creative juices a little and have been helpful!
The idea is to begin planning your move [I wouldn't make any offers on
homes, book travel or shipping or give notice/quit your current job until
you land your caribbean job, though.] Actually, relocating to the islands is
a pretty fascinating idea. My best wishes and bon voyage!

Thanks so much for your comments- I should probably clarify on the
websites I am after as some of the ones you provided require a fee to
obtain the listings, others like islands in the sun are directly
linked to monster and then there are others like eeastaff that are
specifically for nationals of a country.
I do not want to pay for listings as my experience with that type of
website has not been good as I have paid a fee and the listings are
very out of date and the like. I liked your creative suggestions as it
would never occur to me to get a realtor to find me a job, although I
am not certain I will pursue that avenue as initally I plan to rent as
I don't want to jump into a purchase until I get to know the island
better
