How to avoid newly created windows (ones that get created not as
direct result of my action, e.g., during startup, or when someone
sends me an IM via AOL, etc) from stealing keyboard focus in microsoft
windows?

Hello pinkfreud, thanks for pointers to those two utilities. The
pushpin one looks cool, I might have to resort to that if I don't find
something which does exactly what I described in my question...

In linux you would use multiple desktops so that applications on one
desktop would  not disturb the functioning of apps in other desktops.

However this is not directly possible in Micro$oft windows. But there
is a way to come around this problem. There are softwares such as
___________ which allow you to modify the windows shells to include
desktops a la Linux.

Hello siddu, thanks for your pointer to astonshell; it looks cool, but
I really want to continue using the default Windows XP desktop.
