I have some green pottery (darkish green, matte not shiny finish) that
I think may come from Ohio from the 20s or 30s. It has art deco'y
features on it (flowers; key designs). At one point, someone told me
about three different makers of this type of pottery, and I have
forgotten all of their names. What I'd like is for someone to
research this type of pottery for me, give me some of the history of
this type of pottery, and tell me about the possible makers of my
pieces. Also, if in the course of your research you come across
dealers of this type of pottery in the US (online or offline in either
NYC, Boston, or SF) I would appreciate knowing their contact
information and getting a rough sense of the size of their collection
for sale. (BTW, I have checked for similar pieces on ebay and have
not been successful in finding similar items, but maybe have not
looked properly or thoroughly.)

artemis,

In your searches thus far, even on eBay, have you come across anything
similar in appearance? Any picture would be a big help.

Can you give us a more detailed description of some of your pieces,
like a teapot or gravy boat?

- Overall size? Thickness?
- Overall description of the item's shape?
- Handle shape?
- Transparent glaze? Crackle glaze?
- What kind of flower decor? Any vines?
- Colors used in the flower decorations?
- Are the flower decorations just flatly applied glaze, or are they
raised above the main surface on ridges?
- Is there any text printed or stamped on any of the items? Exactly
what are the words & numbers?

And so on.

Thank you,
huntsman

Hello Huntsmen -

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/0891455191.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg - in the
upper right corner of the book cover that is what one of the pieces
looks like.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2039446629 - this
is an item on ebay that is similar to another piece.

the decorations are raised above the surface of the pieces, but not
painted differently - all one glaze color.

having just now done a search on amazon, some names they could be are
roseville, rosewood, weller.

i kind of want to know mostly a little bit about the pottery houses
the pieces COULD be and a brief histories of them, rather than getting
a solid id on the pieces.

does this help?

Rookwood Pottery was in Cincinnati at the time. Go to Ebay and put in
Rookwood. See if it looks like any of the Rookwood.

Hi artemis-ga,
I just got back from a trip to Zanesville, OH which, according to the
AAA Tour Book, was the pottery capital of the United States early in
this century. There are still quite a few pottery manufacturers
operating there. This site, The Ohio Ceramic Center, has links to
potteries past and present. (See links in the upper right hand
corner.)

http://www.geocities.com/ceramiccenter/

They list the company, years in business and the area in which they
operated. This should get you close.
Hope this helps.
