Dear trs-ga;

Thank you for allowing me an opportunity to answer your interesting
question. We cannot provide medical advice in this forum (see our
disclaimer at the bottom) but what I can do is point out published
research on the issue:

The answer is no, at least not that researchers have noted as of yet.
A number of notable sources (only a few that I have indicated here)
have indicated that Lyme Disease is not passed on to baby?s via
breastfeeding, so far as research has shown to date. They are careful
to note however phrases such as ??not BELIEVED to pose a danger? and
??not been SHOWN to occur?. The implication here is that not enough
definitive testing has been done to prove the notion that Lyme Disease
cannot be passed on to a baby so of course, where the unknown is
concerned caution is always the best course of action:

?Congenital Lyme Disease (transmission from a pregnant woman to her
child) has not been documented; likewise, transmission of Lyme Disease
via breastfeeding has not been shown to occur.?

?There is currently no evidence that Lyme disease can be transmitted
by breastfeeding. More research needs to be done. Most breastfeeding
experts advise that there seems to be no danger in continuing to
breastfeed if Lyme disease is suspected or diagnosed.?
