I would like to do an in-depth analysis of the shoe. I have noticed
that shoes have a much different social context now than they had when
they were first created. Although it cannot be determined when the
first shoe was in fact created, there are some good estimates. I would
like to create a sort of timeline outlining the increasing social
importance of the shoe, as well as its various shapes and forms and
the reasons they were created this way. Each culture has a different
way of expressing their art and traditions, and the shoe has never
been excluded from this. The only exception would be perhaps those
cultures which had never used the shoe since there was no real purpose
for them, although most cultures do use some sort of shoe at least in
ceremonies and special occasions. I would also like to discuss the
social status of shoe makers and designers, and how it has changed
from the time shoes were first introduced to the present time.

The more information that I can get on this the better, but please try
and limit it to valuable information only (not a huge list of sites I
will never have time to read :-).

Hi!

When you say culture do you mean culture of different countries or
culture of people in specific important eras like the "Roman Empire"?

Thanks!

Either or both. I want to see the progress the shoe has made from it's
first noted use to now, and how that change has affected society from
then until now...

I haven't been able to look up the necessary resources yet so I will
open this question to other researchers who may have a better and
faster way of answering this query.

Thanks

One of the first places you should start is the Beta Show Museum in
Toronto, Canada which deals in depth with this subject
