I am a veterinary student who is considering applying for a one year
rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery after I
graduate. The two internships I have looked at (Animal Medical Center
in Manhattan and University of Minnesota) have extremely long hours -
16+ hour days, often 7 days a week with overnight shifts as well.
I want to find well-respected small animal rotating internships that
have a slightly less insane work schedule. Like 12-14 hour days
instead of 16+, and some weekends off. I would prefer info on
internships that use the Match Program (www.virmp.org) - meaning that
they are formal, well-respected programs. There are some internships
out there that are just low-paid general practice type positions. I
realize it may be difficult to establish this online, but whatever you
can find about the respectability of a program would be great.
Obviously, if it is a veterinary school, or a large, well-equipped
private hospital, that is a huge plus. I am willing to consider
programs in Canada as well.
Info I am NOT looking for:
-what an internship is like (overviews)
-info on large animal or mixed or exotic animal internships - just
dogs and cats please |
