What compensation surveys for high-tech wireless start-ups are the
most respected and purchased by engineering companies (this could be
survey's  Cisco, Proxim, Agere, Bay Networks, 3Com, Intersil,
Foundry, etc. used before going public or being acquired.)

Check out the Radford Surveys.

They are not industry specific, per se, but allow for customization of
reports to give pretty accurate numbers.
