Recently, as she was listening her voice mail on her mobile phone, my
mother suddenly heard an extremely violent noise coming out from the
mobile. This noise was so strong that she got a sound traumatism. She
is now treated at the hospital and risks are big that she will have
persistant troubles. My question is about the mobile dangerous noise.
Has this kind of problem be already reported ? Is there any study
about that ? Is there some explanation on it ? Is there a way of
preventing it ?
thanks in advance for your help.

john...

Could it have been a fax machine sending the sounds they
make when attempting to connect? Can you be more specific
in describing the sound?

Hi,

The sound occured while my mother was in the street. I said a mobile
phone : in fact I should say a Cell Phone. The sound occured as my
mother was listening to her voice mail. It didn't look like a fax
machine connecting sound and was much stronger than that and very
high. She describes it as a "gun shot" in terms of strongness and
brutality. As it created a sound traumatism, it was certainly over 110
db.

thanks

John,

Sorry to hear about your mom's difficulties. Hope she's OK.

Ive never heard of this particular problem in a cell-phone. But there
have been quite a number of reports of battery problems leading to
corrosion, short-circuits, burns, even explosions! I suppose the
right combination of circumstances could lead to a dangerously loud
noise.

Have you examined the phone? Is there any sign of damage or leakage,
particularly near the battery?

Let us know.
