I need to know the artist and title of a very famous painting. It is
of a woman sleeping in a contorted sitting position on a sofa/chair;
she is wearing a long golden-yellow robe/dress. It may be a dutch
artist or maybe even a french impressionist painting. Also, if
possible, I'd appreciate info on where I could purchase a print.
Thanks! -Niki

Is this the painting?

If that's the correct painting, I'll be glad to provide information about it.

This is one of my favorite pieces of art, so I thought of it
immediately when I read your description.

The painting is "Flaming June." The artist is Lord Frederick Leighton.
"Flaming June" was painted around 1895, give or take a year. It is
currently in the collection of the Museo de Arte in Ponce, Puerto
Rico.

Here is another nice online copy:

A bit of info about the painting:

"One of Leighton's best known and most widely reproduced works,
'Flaming June' is an exploration in colour and form. Leighton's most
abandoned tribute to beauty had been anticipated two decades earlier
in the reclining figure in 'Summer Moon', as well as in 'Captive
Andromache' and is also a possible sequel to his 'Summer Slumber' of
1894. Another possible and more contemporary source was 'Hope' by G.
F. Watts which had been exhibited at the Grosvenor Gallery in 1886.
According to Leighton, however, the monumental form, which recalls
Michelangelo's 'Night' in the Medici Chapel in Florence, was not
intentionally arranged but occurred naturally when the fatigued model
was resting. The condensed composition was the result of many frenzied
prepartory studies. There is no apparent subject matter; this is
simply a depiction of a young woman sleeping in brilliant sunlight.
Through the unifying curtain of luminous glow, we glimpse the sea with
the sun's reflection on it. However all extraneous detail was reduced
so that the spector would concentrate on the confined figure, modelled
by Dorothy Dene."

A friend of mine is very enthusiastic about a site that sells
hand-painted reproductions of well-known paintings. "Flaming June" is
among the paintings they offer:
