The phrase, "Microsoft Internet Explorer provided by America Online"
is a customization placed in the title bar of all your browser
windows, and has nothing to do with the nature of the popup. It
simply means that your browser was provided by or modified by
AOL.

To isolate the source of the popup, you will probably need to
install and run 'Hijack This' - a program which takes a snapshot
of areas in your system where such hijacks are likely to be found.

Hijack This can be downloaded from its home site here:

Let me know where this takes you, and if it satisfies your needs.

i've seen this one before. it requires editing your windows registry
information. use with caution.

the following is an excerpt from http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=176497

To Add a Custom Internet Explorer Window Title
Using Registry Editor, add a String value named Window Title to the
following key in the registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
The data value is the title you want to appear on the Internet Explorer window.

NOTE: In Windows NT, the value should be of type REG_SZ instead of String.
To Remove a Custom Internet Explorer Window Title
Using Registry Editor, delete the following value in the registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\Window Title
When you delete this value, "Microsoft Internet Explorer" becomes the
default window title.

if it is indeed adware, then I reccomend Ad-Aware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

Ad-Aware will automatically detect and remove any adware.

I would ignore the advice on the registry hack. It will just change
the text in the Title bar of your IE windows. It does nothing to stop
your popups. Just popups with new text.

I'd also add Spyware S&D. Do the S&D and the Ad-Aware and get them
out of the way. Then run Hi-Jack this and take the results to the
forum. That'll clean whatever's left. Happy (spyware) huntin!
