endo,
Hi! Yes, I can, thankyou.
I bought a combination VCR/DVD player manufactured by JVC; model
HRXVC33U in April 2004. We have never been able to get it to work.
The installation and setup instructions in the user's manual were
followed as best we could understand it...wording is somewhat
complicated. The TV we have it connected to is a Phillips Magnavox
big screen (projection) TV. When we first plugged the unit in and
hooked the cable antennae to the VCR/DVD player it should have
automatically set the clock and channels and displayed this in the LCD
screen on the front of the player. Nothing happened and we are not
saavy enough to figure out what we did wrong. We did not use the S
video cable we used the Audio/Video output cables, you know the yellow
cable with the 3 connectors at the ends that are white, red, and
yellow.
Hope I am clear in communicating this, I appreciate your time and expertise.

Hi,
Can you get anything to work on the device, or have you never managed
to see anything from it on screen?
Have you tried viewing a DVD on your TV by switching to the A/V input
channel on your TV? Can you tell me the model of your TV please?
I'm downloading the manual for your player, I'll have a look when it finishes.
Thanks.

Hi,
Page 17 of the manual explains how to setup the clock manually:
"What to do if Plug & Play setting failed
? If an incorrect time is displayed on the front display panel, you
may be receiving the clock setting data of a PBS channel from an
adjacent time zone, or an incorrect PBS channel from a cable TV
system. In this case, perform ?Semiauto Clock Set? (pg. 25)
or ?Manual Clock Set? (pg. 25).
? If ?? ?:? ?? appears on the front display panel, your antenna cable
may not be connected to the unit or there may not be a Host
PBS signal available in your area. Ensure that the antenna cable is
connected correctly. Then turn on and off the unit; the Plug &
Play setting will be automatically reactivated. If Plug & Play setting
is not performed though the antenna cable is connected
correctly, perform ?Manual Clock Set? (pg. 25) and ?Auto Channel Set?
(pg. 26) or ?Manual Channel Set? (pg. 27)."
You can get the manual from here:
JVC Instruction Manual
http://books.jvcservice.com/booklist.asp?Model=HR-XVC33US
Maybe it's more complete than the one you received with your purchase.
Page 18 onwards, describes how to set up its various functionality.
Setting up the tuner is on page 26.
If you're not able to see anything on your TV at all, then we'll have
to look at how you've connected the cables.
If you are able to see the setup menus, then you might want to look at
the pages I mentioned.
Please let me know how it goes.
Thanks.

When we first hooked it up it played a dvd movie disc okay but we had
only plugged it in, and connected it to the tv. After then unplugging
it, and following the setup instructions, we can no longer see the
movie although it is playing (you can hear the player running). Also
you can hear that a vcr tape is running but we do not have it playing
on any channel on the tv. We get nothing but horizontal lines where
the clock readout should be on the front of the unit. The remote will
turn it on and work the vcr side okay (we hear it) but the dvd side
will only respond to play from the remote.
Hope this helps you help me! :)

Hi,
It sounds as if you might have reconnected it incorrectly after you
unplugged it. The fact that you could see a DVD before and that you
can't now seems to indicate that. Can you check the cable connections
again please. Make sure that everything is connected in the right
place and pushed in firmly.
Thanks.

okay, here was the problem. We had to set the tv up with the cable
connection as the antennae. Then plug the unit in and connect the
cable to it BUT NOT turn the unit on. This is not clear in the
manual. The tv is turned on then the unit automatically begins
setting up the channels and the time. Then you turn the unit on and
hook up the rest of the cables and that is what worked for us.

Hi,
I'm happy to know you solved your problem.
I guess I wasn't of much assistance, so it might not be appropriate to
post an answer.
Thanks.
