I have a Sony 42" Rear Projection LCD TV (KDF-42WE655). I also have a
computer equipped with an eVGA (http://www.evga.com) GeForce FX 5950
Ultra graphics card running on a well equipted Windows XP Professional
machine. The graphics card has a DVI output and my TV has an HDMI
input. So, I bought an 8ft HDMI to DVI Monster Cable (for a whopping
$150) to connect my computer to my brand new TV. I do get adequate
resolution, meaning that the image is clear... I can read the text.
However, the computer desktop is too big. There is about an inch or
two of the desktop that overruns it's bounty, if you will. My
computer's resolution is set to the max setting, which is currently
1920 x 1080; anything smaller just makes the desktop bigger and more
bloated looking. But even at 1920 x 1080, I still can't see the Start
button (or the entire task bar for that matter), the menu is cut in
half because it extents past the left side, and so on...

Is there anyone that can help me get this to work or find out if it is
even possible?

Thank you,
Cody Rush

PS - I dl'd what I thought to be the latest drivers from evga.com
(version 61.77). http://www.evga.com/products/moreinfo.asp?Part_Number=256-A8-N338-AX&switch=6

If you have the nVidia Detonator drivers installed, you should be able
to access the nVidia control panel and tweak the image there. There
is an option to center the screen output left, right, up, and down, as
zoom in and out.

Can you please tell me if the Detonator Drivers will work with my video card?

nVidia GeForce FX 5950 Ultra (256MB).

You have to consider one more very important fact.

The KDF-42WE655 has a native display resolution of 1386 x 788.
This means that all input signals will be displayed at 1386 x 788.
Native display resolution simply means , the number of "physical" or
actual pixels the display has, even if it can rez up to greater
numbers ( done mathematically ).
So what is happening , is that an interpolation ( recreation of / or
downsizing ) from your computer resolution of 1920 x 1080 to the 1386
x 768 of the LCD.
The way for you to have a one to one relationship is to set the
computer resolution to a value closest to the 1386 x 768 (native LCD),
which would be 1360 x 768 ( ie. available computer screen resolution )
Display Properties > Settings > Advanced > Adapter > List All Modes
1360 x 768 at 60 Hertz or therabouts.
A little experimentation and tweaking with the display properties will
get you to the most optimal picture quality.

Good Luck and Have Fun

Hello,
I suggest using a power strip software to create a driver which would
be able to output the native resolution 1386 x 788 to your LCD. Then
it all should be fine.

Thank you
