Yes pamkeller-ga, there is. The Emergency Email Network will keep you
informed of any number of emergencies ranging from a thunderstorm to
Homeland Security. It can be found at

http://www.emergencyemailnetwork.com/

The American Weather Service (AWS) has a program you can download to
your computer for free that will chirp whenever there is an alert in
your area. It can be found at:

http://ww3.weatherbug.com/aws/Default.asp?RND=14372&

I use both of the above and find that they alert me about the same
time. They are just as timely and accurate as my local TV channel.
The Emergency Email Network will even send to your pager or wireless
phone.

Also, weather.com will send you your forecast to your inbox daily and
warn you of severe weather as well. They also have a desktop weather
program you can download for free.

Hope this helps!

I am sorry, I assumed that AWS stood for American Weather Service, but
it is AWS Convergence Technologies changed from Automated Weather
Source about a year ago.
