Hello icegiant

In July 1998 some characters from Eastenders went to Paris with
tickets for the World Cup Final. In the end, Huw and Lenny were the
ones who actually saw the match.

"PARIS SPECIAL: Part 1 of 2 - Pat and Roy arrive in Paris and are
unhappy with the hotel. Barry and the others have problems with the
van and then discover there are only two World Cup tickets available,
not four.

PARIS SPECIAL: Part 2 of 2 - Pat and Roy's whistle-stop tour of the
city continues, but can they sort things out? Things get worse for
Huw, Lenny, Robbie and Barry when there's a problem with the World Cup
tickets. Pat is annoyed that Roy has let Barry and his friends join
them. Barry feels remorse for ruining their weekend. They all go to
the World Cup match."

"Thursday 9 July 1998
.....
Pat says again that she wants Barry out of the house. Roy's excited
about something - one of his mates has sent him two tickets for the
World Cup Final! Pat tells him that she can't go with him - she's got
a business to run, plus she hates football. Roy says that it's a
chance of a lifetime, and she can't say no!"

"Saturday 11 July 1998
.....
It looks like there's only two tickets for the final after all ...
they draw lots. Whoever gets the short straws will win. Robbie goes
first, and he draws a long straw. Robbie's gutted. Next Huw, and he's
ecstatic. Then Barry - ha ha loser! So it's Huw and Lenny off to the
final."

I think this is your answer! Please just ask if it needs any clarification.

Best Wishes - Leli

My search strategy was to start by finding out where the 1998 World
Cup final was held. When I discovered it was Paris, I thought the
Eastenders would find that a reasonably short trip from home. This
guess turned out well!
Then my searches were:

Eastenders "World Cup" Paris

"World Cup" Pat Roy Barry Paris
