Hi Photoby,

My first search, on [ epiductive adhesive tape ] yielded the message
"no web pages were found containing the word 'epiductive'. Searching
on [ "conductive tape" ] and [ "electrically conductive tape" ] gave
much better results. I've uncovered the following manufacturers of
electrically conductive adhesive tapes:

Bron Tapes of Arizona
http://www.brontapesofarizona.com/products.html

3M
http://www.3m.com/us/mfg_industrial/adhesives/html/eleccond.jhtml

EMI Catalog (http://www.emicatalog.com) offers a conductive tape
search - select conductive material, facing, manufacturer, whether or
not the adhesive is conductive as well, width, and the wizard will
search for a tape meeting your specifications:

EMI Catalog Conductive Tape Search
http://www.emicatalog.com/conductive_tape.phtml?category=conductive_tape

The wizard lists three manufacturers of conductive tape:

Chomerics
http://www.chomerics.com

Instrument Specialties
http://www.instrumentspecialties.com/

Tecknit
http://www.tecknit.com

I hope these are what you're looking for!

The sources provided by Missy are excellent. 3M has extensive
abilities to provide conductive material both pressure sensitive and
molded. I was in the pressure sensitive tape business for over 30
years...and certainly would be able to help if your definition of
"conductive" is different for the products you are seeking...EMI
shielding, static dissapative, or XYZ conductivity as offered by 3M...

What is the name and any other information in the core of the tape you
are using now.........??

Do you use the tape you have now with a conductive gel?? Did your
current tape come with a TENS machine?? Have you tried the butterfly
patches with the gel??

You have to be careful with this concept to get the correct product
since you could burn yourself or provide insufficient current to your
body rendering the TENS machine concept inactive. Please give us more
information so that we can effectively help you..

The tape detail are as follows Medtronic manufactured for
medtronic.inc 3355 Old
highway eight P.O. Box 1453 Minneapolis MN 55440 USA

Epiductive Tape model 3850 electrode 25.4mm x 9m Real No mc 75044
143875-01 .

I used this tape very sucessfully and did not get any burns unlike the
tens butter fly pads which i had to stop using. This tape looks
similar to micropore which has been inpregnated into the sticky side
with aluminium.

Have tried patches with gel ,no go .
Tape is used by itself with no gel .
The National Nuero Hospitals London U.K resident Tens person some few
years ago gave me the Tape but they where not able to track any more
down, and the condition has re occured and i need to repeat the
treatment . Jonathan Richardson.

OK...good lead. I'll call some people tomorrow for you to see if I
can get a lead on a product very similar to the one you are using.
25.4mm (about 1") by 9m (about 30 yards)....More commonly tapes of
this sort would be packaged 1" x 36yds.....OK....thanks for the
clarification. Hopefully, we can find a similar product for you.

How do you connect the TENS machine to the tape?? Do you just clip on
to the tape with some leads??

I did not want you to think that I was not working on this to identify
a product that you can use as you described. So far, calls to
Medtronics (don't make the TENS machine anymore and does not have any
stock of tape or attachments), EMPI (who bought the machine rights
from Medtronics but they are unavailable yet today...I'll call later)
and 3M who seems to have the product as an ZYZ conductive transfer
adhesive (as given you my missy's reference). This product, though,
is all adhesive with no carrier other than the release liner. I have
placed a call for the key engineer at 3M on conductive products asking
him to call back) I suspect this product was "assembled" by someone
in the Minneapolis area (a so called converter) for Medtronics using
the 3M adhesive (this adhesive is quite technical and unique) Perhaps
someone laminated a non woven backing to the adhesive. The butterfly
pads are the more common way of doing this...you may be getting burned
by not adding enough gel or too much gel..I'll report the information
from 3M and the return information from EMPI. I could tell you how to
make the product yourself using 3M's 9713 (you'd have to request a
sample from one of their salespeople which is generally easy to do)
then laminate it to a backing material. I'd use one of the medical
tapes available in any hospital or medical supply other than
cotton.....BUT.....I would not want to be responsible for your being
injured in any way by an experimental product...so will continue to
search for the product you were using...with diminishing chance of
success...

3M is such a great company. I competed against them for over 30 years
and never lost my admiration for them. Well, the researcher called me
back. Their product 9713 can be laminated (layered up) with a neutral
non woven backing (you want something that has holes in it so that the
alligator clips will contact the adesive through the backing and
through the adhesive. The adhesive, which is grey (like aluminum) in
color conducts electricity very well (less than one ohm resistance).
This tape is used in difibrilators (sp??) and should give you the
performance you want (disclaimer disclaimer diclaimer)....3M is
sending me a sample and a data sheet.(see, I told you it would be
easy...just call your local 3M rep)There was an implication in the
conversation that a convertor had done the product for Medtronics
using the 9713 transfer adhesive although I could not confirm
this....I know this sounds kind of pressure sensitive tape geeky...but
I'll be glad to clarify if you don't understand the idea here. You
will not be able to buy the product you were used to but you can make
it....

Received my sample of 3M9713 XYZ-Axis Electrically Conductive Double
Coated Adhesive. It does seem quite grey and has a non woven carrier
in the middle of the adhesive. To make it into a "tape", I'd laminate
a very open non woven to one side....Get a piece from a sewing shop
where non woven's are used for stiffeners in clothing. You will need
to work your alligator clip into the product to insure contact with
the conductive adhesive. You can use it without laminating just that
the adhesive may get on the alligator clips and need to be cleaned a
bit after each use....Hope this lead works for you.
