"The National Government will regard it as its first and foremost duty
to revive in the nation the spirit of unity and cooperation. It will
preserve and defend those basic principles on which our nation has
been built. It regards Christianity as the foundation of our national
morality, and the family as the basis of national life."
At what time during Adolf Hitler's reign did he make these
proclamations? and in what context?

Hi, Timely One

This does not seem characteristically Hitlerite.

He despised all religions and was not famous for promoting Christian values.

If he did nake such a public utterance then I would suspect it would
have been during his early days as Chancellor in 1933.

Of course, he lied outrageously and was prepared to say anything that
suited the moment.

As already mentioned by probonopublico-ga this was during Hitler's
early days as Chancellor. According to this webpage (in German):
http://www.bpb.de/popup_druckversion.html?guid=04962540304433072098131403597315

Hitler talked about "das Christentum als Basis unserer gesamten Moral,
die Familie als Keimzelle unseres Volks- und Staatskörpers ..."
(1st February, 1933)

This document, according to
http://www.uncp.edu/home/rwb/hst430q3.htm
is included in "Stackelberg and Winkle, The Nazi Germany Sourcebook":

"1933 February 1 Hitler makes his first radio address to the German
people after becoming Chancellor":
"... regard Christianity as the foundation of our national morality
and the family as the basis of our national life." (Lewy)
http://www.humanitas-international.org/holocaust/1933tbse.htm

"Lewy" refers to "The Catholic Church and Nazi Germany" by Guenter Lewy:

Thank you, Bryan. I hope that timespacette-ga will agree with you.
However, timespacette's question concerning the context is yet to be answered.

With best wishes,

thank you fp, for the links. And thanks, PB, for the sausages and Twinklies ...

In the one link Hitler does contradict himself by saying 'you are
either German or a Christian" . . . .
but it would be interesting to know exactly the time and context of
the original quote (above)

does anybody know what the "Fascist Ten Commandments" are?

"933 February 1 Italy publishes the Fascist Ten Commandments. (Edelheit)"

With the right, one can't believe one's own lying eyes.

A page well worth perusing.

Another good source of Hitler quotes. While it may be true that
Hitler cynically used Christianity to advance his political and
ideological purposes, one can also look to modern day figures who also
use similar methods to motivate millions to commit evil in the world.
Hitler was surely not the last to use such language and symbology to
mold the will of the weak minded toward doing evil and feeling
absolutely justified and exhilarated by their unspeakably evil acts of
religious ecstasy.
