Hello,

I just bought a mercades SL500 for my wife for her birthday and it has
an in dash DVD. On my other vehicles you can watch DVD's while the car
is in Park but no matter what on the SL500 it has the screen disabled.
I am looking for a way to enable this so when she is in Park and the
car is stopped she can watch a DVD if she is waiting for someone etc.
Can you help me find out where to get this info? Thanks!

tabularasa-ga:

Which model year is the SL500 that you purchased? I ask this because
as best as I can tell from the information available online for this
fine automobile, the current model SL500 is equipped with an in-dash
DVD Navigation system that cannot display DVD-Video on the in-dash
display. I may be wrong about this, as I do not have immediate access
to a SL500 to confirm this with, but everything that Mercedes-Benz and
others say online indicates that the system has a DVD-ROM drive to
work with the DVD Navigation system, and is not equipped with the
necessary equipment to display DVD-Video.

Can you please clarify which model year your SL500 is, and whether
this is the factory-installed in-dash DVD system that you are asking
about?

Thanks,

aht-ga

It is a 2005 SL500

The manual shows all types of options. ie: changing the aspect ratio &
angle and only things you can do if you were watching video. My guess
is this works outside the USA but it is disabled in the US.

Thanks!

The only way to get dvd on the nav screen is to modify the imput to
the head. There is only one place that I know which will do this kind
of work. Nav-TV, although they only deal with custom install shops.
CONTACT NAV-TV AND ASK IF THEY HAVE ANYONE IN YOUR AREA.
THE COST IS USUALLY AROUND 2K
The dvd that is in the car is only for nav uses, you will need a
seperated unit for movies, it will go through the av function, speak
with them about the details
