Dear bluestreak,

I am quite sure that this entry from the Amherst College Biographical
Record refers to the Lewis S. Meacham you have in mind:

Meacham, Lewis. Son of Rev. James and Mary F., born in New Haven,
Vermont, March 4, 1846. Delta Kappa Epsilon. Prepared Phillips
Academy, Andover; A. C., 1867. Tutor Christian College, Indiana,
1868; reporter and proof reader Times and Tribune, Chicago, Illinois,
1869-71; private secretary to Mayor Medill, 1871-72; editor at the
Rutland Herald, 1874; reporter and associated editor at the Chicago
Tribune, 1875-78. Private in the Vermont Regiment and 1st Lieutenant
of the New York Highlanders, 1862-65. Died in Chicago, Illinois,

Though the date of death is much earlier than 1910, the dates of
employment with the Chicago Tribune fit with your data. However,
because of that difference of more than 30 years, I prefer to first
ask you if this is a satisfying result.

Would this be a valid answer? Please let me know.

scriptor,

Wow! Now that is fast! I should have posted this earlier. I do
believe that the data you found is indeed for the Chicago Tribune
sports reporter/editor.
I just can not believe that another of the same name met those same conditions.
So I feel that you've found the right person and I'd like to credit
you with a good hit. Just submit this as an answer, and I can credit
and tip you. Thank you so very, very much, scriptor.
