My guess. Clean outside of said hd to remove dirt dust, grease oil what ever. Now for the other thing. I wonder if this would work. Plastic large clear thick plastic bag very clean. Glue bag inside a box stratch top flat so you can see inside. Glue a flange for vacum hose, and glue two golves into the side of the bag. Place hd and tools needed to open and another hd of the exact same type inside. Turn on vacum ,run for some time period using the tools remove the hd media replace it in the second good hd . Remove hd from bag place in system running software to access or image that drive. If that does not work remove hd media then take box to clean area , to open then view data using other methods perhaps electron microscope. |

You can get some basic info by using this search string: data recovery "clean room" For instance: Clean Room Data Recovery http://www.harddriverecovery.org/clean_room.html Seems you'd need to talk to one of the specialized contracters mentioned on that page to find out how to build a Clean Room to meet the criteria necessary to become certified. |
